How to Buy RLUSD on the XRP Ledger

You need an XRP Ledger wallet holding XRP. The ledger keeps 1 XRP in every account and 0.2 XRP more for each token it holds, so keep a little more than you spend (xrpl.org: Reserves). No wallet yet? Connect creates one here, or see the XRP wallet guide.

The swap adds the RLUSD trust line for you: the ledger’s permission for your account to hold RLUSD, with rippling turned off. The trade settles in the next ledger, a few seconds later.

Only one RLUSD is Ripple’s. Its issuer address on the XRP Ledger is:

Ripple lists it as the issuer account in its developer docs (Ripple: RLUSD on the XRP Ledger). Dozens of other tokens on the XRP Ledger use the code RLUSD under other addresses; they are not Ripple’s. Every swap and token page on xrpl.to shows the issuer, and the RLUSD token page is Ripple’s.

Ripple describes RLUSD as its “U.S. dollar–backed stablecoin, supported one-to-one by cash deposits, U.S. Treasuries, and cash equivalents”. It is “issued through a limited purpose trust chartered by the New York State Department of Financial Services”, and Ripple publishes “monthly third-party attestations of RLUSD’s reserve assets” (Ripple: RLUSD).

Ripple lists the exchanges and apps that offer RLUSD on its availability page. To move RLUSD from an exchange to your XRP Ledger wallet, withdraw it on the XRP Ledger network, not Ethereum or another chain. Your wallet needs the RLUSD trust line before it can receive any; a small swap above creates it.
