How to Buy Tokens on the XRP Ledger
Everything you need to go from zero to your first XRPL token trade - no KYC, no sign-up.
Why Buy Tokens on the XRP Ledger?
The XRP Ledger has a built-in decentralized exchange running since 2012. Unlike Ethereum or Solana DEXs, there are no smart contracts involved - the exchange is part of the protocol itself. Transactions settle in 3-5 seconds and cost ~$0.00002.
Step 1: Create or Connect a Wallet
You need an XRPL wallet to trade. You have three options:
- XRPL.to wallet - create one directly on this site, no app needed
- Xaman (formerly Xumm) - popular mobile wallet for the XRP Ledger
- Crossmark - browser extension wallet
Connect your wallet on the Swap page to get started.
Step 2: Fund Your Wallet with XRP
Your wallet needs XRP to cover the 1 XRP base reserve (required to activate the account) and transaction fees. Buy XRP from any major exchange (Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, Uphold) and send it to your XRPL address.
We recommend starting with at least 5-10 XRP - 1 XRP for the account reserve, and the rest for trading and trustline reserves.
Step 3: Set a Trustline
Before you can hold any non-XRP token, you need a trustline - a one-time approval that tells the ledger you accept that token. Each trustline locks 0.2 XRP in reserve (refundable if removed).
On XRPL.to, trustlines are set automatically when you swap into a new token. No extra steps needed. Learn more in our trustline guide.
Step 4: Buy Your First Token
