Trade on the XRPL DEX Without KYC

The XRP Ledger’s exchange is part of the ledger itself, so trading on it needs a wallet and nothing else: no account to open and no documents to upload. Two things still matter: getting XRP in usually goes through an exchange that checks who you are, and every trade is public.

Where your identity is checked

  1. Identity checked
    1. Buy XRP

At an exchange or a card service.

  2. Address recorded
    2. Withdraw it

To a wallet whose key only you hold. The exchange keeps a record of the address.

  3. No check
    3. Trade on the ledger

Swap, place orders, add to pools. No account and no documents.

  4. Public
    4. Everything is public

Every trade is on the ledger for anyone to read, under your address.

Only the trading itself needs no identity. Getting XRP in usually does, and the ledger keeps everything in the open.

How to start

  1. Get a wallet whose key you hold. A hardware wallet for amounts you cannot afford to lose (wallet comparison).
  2. Fund it with XRP. At least 1 XRP stays locked as the account reserve, plus 0.2 XRP for each token you hold.
  3. Open a trust line to each token you want to hold, on the issuer address the project publishes (trust lines).
  4. Trade. Swap at the best price on the order book and pools together, or place limit orders. Trades settle in 3–5 seconds.

What can still be frozen

  • XRP cannot be frozen by anyone, and nobody can close your wallet.
  • A token can be. Its issuer can freeze it on one holder’s line or on every line at once, and since May 2025 freeze it so it can neither be sent nor received (freezes, deep freeze). Issuers that switched on clawback can take tokens back (clawback). Stablecoins usually keep these powers; check a token’s page before buying.
  • Exchanges can refuse your deposits later if the funds passed through addresses they flag.

What a trade costs

Network feeAbout $0.00002 a transaction, paid to no one: it is destroyed.
Order bookNo trading fee. You pay the other side’s price.
AMM poolThe pool’s own fee, 0 to 1%, set by its liquidity providers.
The app you useIts own fee on top, if any: xrpl.to takes 0.4% on swaps through its interface; an order placed directly costs only the network fee.

Permissioned exchanges sit beside the open one

Since 18 February 2026 the ledger also supports permissioned order books: separate books that only accounts holding a credential accepted by a given domain can trade on, built for regulated firms that must know their counterparties (xrpl.org; how they work). The open books are unchanged and stay open to everyone.

Questions

Can I trade on the XRP Ledger without KYC?
Yes. Trading on the ledger’s exchange needs only a wallet you control: no account and no documents. Buying the XRP to start with usually happens at an exchange, which does check who you are.
Is trading on the XRP Ledger anonymous?
No. Every trade is recorded publicly under your address, and an exchange you withdrew from knows that the address is yours.
Can my tokens be frozen on the XRP Ledger?
XRP cannot be frozen. A token’s issuer can freeze that token on your trust line, or on every line at once, unless it has given up that power, and some issuers can claw tokens back.
