When you provide liquidity to an XRPL AMM pool, you deposit equal value of two tokens (e.g. XRP and RLUSD). Every swap that routes through the pool pays a trading fee that is distributed proportionally to all liquidity providers.
The APY depends on trading volume relative to pool size. Higher volume and higher trading fees mean more yield. The XRP/RLUSD pool is the most active RLUSD pool on the XRPL with $3.56M in liquidity.
No counterparty risk
Your tokens stay on the XRPL in a protocol-level AMM. No smart contract exploits, no platform custody. You hold LP tokens that are redeemable at any time.
Impermanent loss applies
If XRP moves significantly vs RLUSD, you may withdraw less value than you deposited. The trading fees earned can offset this, but it depends on volatility and volume.
APY is variable
The 7-day APY shown above is based on recent trading activity. During high-volume periods the yield is higher. Low-volume periods earn less.
Ethereum DeFi protocols generate RLUSD yield in different ways. Lending protocols like Aave earn interest from borrowers. LP pools on Curve and Uniswap earn trading fees. Some protocols also distribute reward tokens on top of base yield.
The trade-off vs XRPL: no impermanent loss on lending (Aave, Morpho, Euler), but Ethereum gas fees of $1-50+ per transaction apply. LP pools on Curve and Uniswap do have impermanent loss risk, similar to XRPL AMM pools.

For self-custody and low fees, XRPL AMM pools are the simplest option. For single-sided lending without impermanent loss, Ethereum protocols like Aave and Morpho are an alternative but come with gas fees and smart contract risk.
